Chain-reaction Truck Accident In Texas Leaves One Dead
Corpus Christi, TX- A poorly secured load on flatbed truck led to a collision between a tractor-trailer and car that left one Texas woman dead, and tied up a busy highway for hours.
The accident took place Monday just after 9 a.m. on Highway 225 in Pasadena when a tractor-trailer rear-ended a passenger vehicle which became trapped underneath the big rig, KHOU reported.
Vince Mitchel of the Pasadena Police Department said the female driver of the car was behind a trailer that was being hauled by a pickup truck when several empty barrels fell off. The person driving the pickup pulled over to retrieve the objects and the female driver slowed. That’s when she was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer.
Upon impact the woman’s car, a small sedan, was pushed under the cab of the truck, trapping the driver inside. When emergency crews arrived the woman, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead.
The tractor-trailer driver told police he didn’t see the woman brake.
KHOU reported that it took police several hours to free the mangled wreckage of the car before they could determine if she was the only victim.
Police have not charged anyone but that could change depending on the results of their investigation.
In this particular accident, more than one party played a role in the destruction that followed. For one, it doesn’t appear that the load on the trailer being hauled was not properly secured, had it been, the objects wouldn’t have rolled off into the path of the deceased driver. On the highway, objects from an improperly secured loaded truck, become dangerous projectiles that can cause one or more destructive collisions. Large objects in the road can be hazardous for any driver.
With accidents resulting from road debris, it can be difficult to find the responsible party, but when the at-fault party can be located, the victims have the right to pursue that party for an injury settlement. Victims who retain a Texas truck accident attorney won’t have to worry about how they are going to pay their medical bills or recover their lost wages, because their attorney will fight to get them the settlement they need and deserve.
While it is unclear if the tractor-trailer driver was following too closely in this particular accident, that is often the case in rear-end truck accidents. Commercial vehicles are significantly larger and heavier than passenger vehicles therefore truck drivers must allow enough room to stop between their truck and other vehicles. Failing that, a truck driver can be at-fault for an accident and responsible for compensating their victims or victims.
If you have been involved in a truck accident, you may not know what to do next. During this troubling time, you need to speak with a Texas truck accident attorney for guidance. They will evaluate the circumstances of your accident and help you decide the best way to tackle your injury claim and assure you receive a generous settlement.
